WHAT SHIELD DO YOU HAVE?
By Norman Watson

Today’s Bible Teaching and the song is about the “shield of faith”. There has always been a war going on between those who call themselves “Christians” and Satan, the intensity of that war will get worse and fiercer as the day of the Lord gets closer and closer.

Many “Christians” have been struck down and wounded and many have surrendered and by doing so they have united with the enemy, Satan. Jesus told us in Matthew 24:10-13 “And then many will fall away and betray one another and hate one another. And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.” Don’t just be a “Christian”, be a FOLLOWER OF JESUS!

When we become born again we are given armor to wear and use (Ephesians 6:10-18) and one of those pieces is the “Shield of Faith”, Ephesians 6:16 says “In every situation take up the shield of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.” notice that we are to “TAKE UP” the Shield of Faith” and USE IT. The Bible also tells us that we are also citizens of the kingdom of God (Philippians 3:20) and we are members of His royal family (Romans 8:16-17), We are also Ambassadors (2 Cor. 5:20), kings and Priests (Revelation 1:6). Therefore, the shield that He has given to us is a royal gold shield that we are to “take up” and use in our spiritual battle.

The warning and encouragement that I would like to give you is to not be like King Rehoboam and those who followed him in 1 Kings 14:21-25 who rebelled against God and did evil in the sight of the Lord which resulted in God using their enemy Egypt to defeat them in battle and bringing them to forced humility and shame. Notice that the King of Egypt took the “Gold Shields” and substituted them with “Bronze Shields” and they had to return them after each shift in guarding the kings house. I will also point out that those bronze shields we heavy and a burden to carry. We need to ask ourselves what shield do we have? is it gold or bronze? and whose kings house are we guarding?

Instead of being discouraged, fearful or worried in the battle that we are in let us be encouraged by the following quotes, “Affliction brings out graces that cannot be seen in a time of health. It is the treading of the grapes that brings out the sweet juices of the vine; so it is affliction that draws forth submission, weanedness from the world, and complete rest in God. Use afflictions while you have them. ” Robert Murray McCheyne, “Let God’s promises shine on your problems” Corrie Ten Boom, “And it is through conflict that God induces the believer to seek and to grasp total triumph in Christ” Watchman Nee, “When a train goes through a tunnel and it gets dark, you don’t throw away the ticket and jump off. You sit still and trust the engineer” Corrie Ten Boom.

Finally let me encourage you by reminding you that as true followers of Jesus we are “Ambassadors” which means that before the King of kings attacks in what is called the seven year tribulation He will call His ambassadors back to His Kingdom. The question is will you be left behind? Or raptured. Are you ready? Carefully read Matthew 25:1-13

Shield of Faith (By Alison Krauss & Union Station)

Sometimes I’m battle weary
I forget to use my shield
The arrows pierce my armor
And I stumble in the field
A shield won’t do much good
If it’s hangin’ by your side
Keep the shield of faith before you
If you want to stay alive
I’ll think my life is over
But the Lord, He comes to me
He heals my wounded spirit
And He sets me on my feet
A shield won’t do much good
If it’s hangin’ by your side
Keep the shield of faith before you
If you want to stay alive
Sometimes your battle weary
But the war’s already won
Keep your head and hold your shield high
‘Til your days of life are done
A shield won’t do much good
If it’s hangin’ by your side
Keep the shield of faith before you
If you want to stay alive
Keep the shield of faith before you
If you want to stay alive
The Shield of Faith – By Greg Laurie

In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. (Ephesians 6:16nlt)

Spiritual attacks will often come when you are attempting to do something great for God. But if you’re floundering spiritually and never doing anything with your faith, the devil doesn’t see you as a threat.

However, if you dare to say, “I’m going to try to influence those around me for Jesus. I want to step up my game and speak up for my faith,” then you’ll get hit with what the Bible calls “the fiery arrows of the devil” (Ephesians 6:16 nlt).

These also will come at you when you read the Scriptures. You can read any book you want, watch any television program you want, or look at any website you want. But the moment you pull out the Bible and start reading it, all hell breaks loose and the devil’s arrows start flying. The last thing he wants is for you to open the Word of God.

That is why he will hit you with his flaming arrows, and that is why you need to hold up the shield of faith. It is faith in God’s Word and in what God’s Word says. It is the ability to quickly apply what you believe so as to repel everything the devil does or attempts to do to you.

When you are hit and don’t know what to do, put up the shield of faith. Maybe it’s a financial crisis, and you’re wondering how you will get through it. Remember what the Bible says: “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19 nkjv). Or maybe someone has threatened you. Read Psalm 91. God promises to protect you.

As long as you believe God, your shield is raised. But the moment you stop believing Him, your shield goes down.
