This part 1 of a 4-part devotional on the parable of the seed in the gospels of Matthew and Mark.
The Seed Fell Along The Path Part 1/4
“And he told them many things in parables, saying: “A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seeds fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured them.” Matthew 13:3,4 (ESV)
“Hear then the parable of the sower: When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand (comprehend thoroughly) it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is what was sown along the path.” Matthew 13:18,19 (ESV)
“Listen! Behold, a sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seed fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured it.” Mark 4:3,4 (ESV)
“The sower sows the word. And these are the ones along the path, where the word is sown: when they hear, Satan immediately comes and takes away the word that is sown in them.” Mark 4:14,15 (ESV)
Jesus 12 disciples did not understand what Jesus was saying so Jesus explains to them what the meaning was.
Many churches have failed to follow Jesus example of discipleship. The Bible may be taught behind the pulpit and may even be teaching the Bible chapter by chapter and verse by verse, but how many are just hearing the words and still do not understand?
Because of a lack of understanding they leave the church service and return to the same path in the world where Satan is waiting to take the “word” that they just heard out, and replace it with his lies. There is no discipleship in the church and the Pastor teaching behind the pulpit is not the type of discipleship that Jesus did.
I am doing a devotional called “7 ways to renew your mind” on YouVersion with my sister. This part spoke to my heart. “Stop making your mind a sidewalk for the Devil to trample on, make it a disciple to the Word of God. The type of ground where the birds stole the seed was along the path (see Matthew 13:4). Do not let the Devil walk on your mind as a sidewalk, otherwise the Word of God has no chance to bring change. The birds will steal it from your heart.”
There needs to be small groups meeting and one on one Bible study. This needs to be encouraged in the church and made available.
Also Individuals in the Church need to do Bible study on their own and not just hear the Pastors weekly Bible sermon. We need to follow the example in Acts 17:11(NLV) ”And the people of Berea were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica, and they listened eagerly to Paul’s message. They searched the Scriptures day after day to see if Paul and Silas were teaching the truth.”
